The wedding day checklist
10 overlooked planning details every bride should prioritize

While wedding planning, it’s easy to focus on the major elements and decisions, from the dress to the venue to the food and entertainment. But it’s often the seemingly small details that can make or break the big day.
In the whirlwind of preparation, don’t forget these important to-dos:
1. Get the marriage license:
Research your county’s specific requirements and deadlines. Keep your marriage license, vendor contracts and any other important documents in a designated folder to prevent them from getting misplaced.
2: Pack an emergency kit:
Include fashion tape, safety pins, stain remover, pain reliever, tissues, mints, a phone charger, blister bandages, deodorant, bobby pins, a sewing kit and a small snack. Chances are good you’ll use at least one of them.
3. Bring comfortable shoes:
Rock those designer heels during the ceremony, but have a comfortable pair of shoes handy so you can dance your heart out at the reception.
4. Don’t forget to eat and drink water:
In all the excitement of the big day, prioritize keeping yourself hydrated and nourished. Designate someone to ensure you have plenty of food and water throughout the festivities.
5. Plan for the weather:
Don’t get caught off guard by unpredictable Coast weather. If your wedding is outdoors, have a contingency plan for heat, humidity, wind or rain. Guests will appreciate accommodations like fans, water stations, umbrellas, shade and indoor photo locations.
6: Schedule time for just the two of you:
The wedding day moves quickly, and if you’re not proactive, you may not get time alone with your new spouse. Arrange a 15-minute block, after the ceremony or before the reception, when you two can share a private moment without interruptions or distractions.
7. Build in buffers:
As you plan your big day, give your schedule some breathing room. Hair and makeup appointments may run long. Dress emergencies happen. Traffic backs up. Create cushions in your timeline to reduce stress.
8. Don’t leave the photos to chance:
The photographer you hire may be a professional — but he or she still needs some guidance. Make a list of all your must-have shots and designate someone to ensure those moments are captured.
9. Assign after-party duties:
When all the fun is over, there will be lots of items to pack up, pick up and transport. Allocate these responsibilities well in advance so nothing gets lost or left behind.
10: Have cash for tips:
Sometimes vendor gratuities aren’t included in the invoice, so make sure to pre-pack cash tips in individual, labeled envelopes.
